If Malcolm's brother hadn't been converted to NOI, would Malcolm?
I believe Malcolm wouldn't have converted to NOI if his brother wasn't. Also if he was sent to jail he would still be doing street things and probably die because of high dose drugs. If he hadn't been to jail and quit doing drugs and dope he would still be lost in his own world and would to even remember what his brother told him about Islam. Jail gave him time to think of all the good things in his life. He met Bimbi there, he starting educating himself and found Islam. He was alone and spend all his time doing good things and believed his brothers teaching and chose a good path for himself. So I think his brother played a big role in converting him.
I agree with your answer here. I don't think that Malcolm would have a converted to the Nation of Islam if he hadn't been sent to jail and his brother hadn't converted. When his siblings began to visit him and talk about Elijah Muhammad I think at first he was hesitant but he eventually became intrigued with the thought of being a part of something out of the streets. I think getting sent to jail with some sort of sign for Malcolm that may be here with meant to get his life together and move on to do bigger and better things. Earlier in the book they talk about how West indian Archie could have been something greater with his math talent had he not been in the ghetto, maybe jail was a way from Malcolm to navigate out of the ghetto an into something greater in life.
