Ganja and Hess

I think the movie has a really interesting plot. Probably the author has a deeper purpose for this movie, like an artistic-reflexive purpose. The only connection I found between Malcolm X and this film is the influence of religion groups on individuals' lives. Because in the end, Hess was able to eliminate his curse through the church. I agree that the film left us with a lot of questions and many of them were not answered even when the movie ends, but I enjoyed how the movie uses objects, effects, and music to create different environments and confusing the spectator.

  1. I agree with the similarity in the influence of religion between both texts. Malcolm X becomes primarily based on the Nation of Islam and how it completely turned his world around, how much he endured with it and everything he gave to preach the religion he believed in and preach on behalf of Allah. While we aren't given as much context in ganja and hess and a lot of questions are definitely left unanswered, I think maybe it is supposed to be up to interpretation, creating your own answers. In the end, he did rid himself of his curses through religion and entering the church and being prayed for, sparking hope and I think a really interesting ending. I definitely agree with your comment though, especially the effects of music to differ the environment and confuse you, making you think and dig deeper into the film.
