Response to one of the Malcolm X question

On p. 88, Malcolm X write about African Americans being "both servants and psychologists." What does that mean?

In my opinion, I think this means that African Americans at the time would do what they were told by their bosses and would make sure people that they were serving or working for, were satisfied with their needs. I also think what Malcolm X meant by African Americans being psychologists is that, Africans tried to get white people to like them so that they can try to get a better work position to get more money and to try to convince them they aren't bad people as they are since they were judged by society.

  1. Good response Eric. But I wonder if your description of the way African Americans behaved at mid-century is the way that psychologists behave. I think Malcolm X was saying something more sophisticated was happening than simply getting better work.
